Enough is Enough Already!!!
I don't know if anyone has already dicussed this topic but I gotta bring it up...I just need my fam to tell me if I'm wrong.....Am I Overreacting.....Am I out of touch......
BET has a reputation to me of being the B-Movie of the Hip Hop/rap media circus...I mean why would we the originators and purveyors of this beautiful thing we call hip hop take a back seat to other so called music video outlets...
I guess I'd better get to the point: The point being this so-called Public Service announcement/video being aired on the regular at this station...you know hte one I'm talkin about....the Read a Book, Raise Your Kids, Drink Water, all ending in a muf*&%a with a dude screaming his ass off in a voice that is strikingly similar to one Lil Jon......
Oh yeah it's an animation and it is complete with a few cartoon video "dancers" shakin a ton of animated ass!!....
Is this is really neccessary?....
I don't get it folks.....why in the hell would Black Entertainment Television air this like it's OOOkay (for those who know what I'm talkin about excuse the pun".
We as Mcees are already percieved as ignorant...my bad we as black people first are already percieved as being ignorant....the mcee is just the epitome of ignorance.....let me get my history straight....
You see we don't normally teach each other screaming and cursing in-between the lines of the lesson.....in essence what is being said is that we learn better when we are being degraded.....you have got to see this PSA..
It has reached CNN folks......and I normally don't agree when the media gets involved in hip hop affairs because they always seem to twist things out of context, but people, this one came pretwisted......
Things like this have got to stop...you see we dont want to add fuel to the flame of what has already become a trial by fire of our music genre.....nah...our way of life.....and this video is uneccessary....
Now BET made an official statement that was aired on CNN claiming that this was made to fit the demographic of their viewers that should be between the ages of what 18 and 34 yrs old.....No....my daughter is 13 and the kids at school are singing this and making a big joke about it while clowning around.....
I saw this video for the first time and was dumbfounded to say the least.....
It makes me feel like we are slipping....do you know how many people died and sacrificed and how many of our people took ass-whippings in lunchlines and in marching lines from here to Alabama and Central High in Little Rock, to show intelligent resistance to racism??...and 20 30 40 years later this comes out to prove the point that the other side was trying to make, without a shot being fired a cross being burned, or a hood being donned that we are animals and have nary an intelligent bone in our bodies....
Read a book mutha*%&4ka, drink water you body needs that sh*$, raise your God D*$&n kids, raise your God D*%$n kids!!!......nah I aint goin.....
Or am I wrong???

THE COMMERCIAL IS A JOKE.IS IT AIMED AT KIDS OR TEENS OR ADULTS?
IT INSULTS MY INTELLIGENCE TO THINK THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE THINK HIP HOP IS.

i feel you...even if it is for that 18-34 demographic, why not show them more respect than that anyway?
That's the respect you have for your youth-turned-adult & mid-years folk?
Callin them a mutha(huh) & tellin them to read a book?
Or are they just assuming anyone of that age who watches their station doesn't read?
It's one thing when the status quo-powers that be assume that, b/c that's Babylon, the enemy anyway.
But when your own people are putting that stereotype on you, the ones w/ the reach & persuasion to actually make a difference, that's a headfuk.
someone, hopefully a few people, are losing a paycheck for that shit, & someone more responsible will take over-but in music television, you know that won't happen...
